Insanity Review

I finally finished Insanity by Cameron Jace!

(Summary - After accidentally killing everyone in her class, Alice Wonder is now a patient in the Radcliffe Lunatic Asylum. No one doubts her insanity. Only a hookah-smoking professor believes otherwise; that he can prove her sanity by decoding Lewis Carroll's paintings, photographs, and find Wonderland's real whereabouts. Professor Caterpillar persuades the asylum that Alice can save lives and catch the wonderland monsters now reincarnated in modern day criminals. In order to do so, Alice leads a double life: an Oxford university student by day, a mad girl in an asylum by night. The line between sanity and insanity thins when she meets Jack Diamonds, an arrogant college student who believes that nonsense is an actual science)

I loved this book and Alice Wonder! The story had me hooked to the end and to be honest, my last thought when I was finished, "Nooooooo, it can't be done! He can't leave it like that! I need more, must have more!" :)

If you love retellings and Alice in wonderland this book is worth reading. It's definitely different from other Alice retellings I've read and I have to say that the story and the insane lot of characters draw you in till the end. It also leaves you guessing who is really insane and who isn't? And who is exactly a friend, and just who is a foe? Seriously, I need more and can't wait for the next book!

Wow, I haven't reviewed a book in awhile. :/ I do believe it is time for me to get back on the saddle, and I have the perfect book in mind, The Poe Consequence by Keith Steinbaum. I love books like this and cannot wait to read it. I'm hoping to receive a review copy of this book, if I don't get one I'll be going out and buying a copy at my local Barnes and Nobles.

The Poe Consequence

In a section of Los Angeles near Dodger Stadium, two rival gangs rule the streets. For the Alvarado Street Diablos, it's been a year since the murder of one of their closest members at the hands of their sworn enemy, the North Rampart Lobos. A drive-by killing in his honor is planned, but things go wrong and an innocent bystander is the victim. Several hours later the one who pulled the trigger suffers a horrifying death, caused by something never before seen in its uniqueness. Many more such cases follow, all involving only these two gangs among the hundreds throughout the city. And each death occurs at the same time of day. The "exact" same time of day.

What can these two enemies do to survive against an unstoppable power intent on their mutual destruction? How is a gang-hating young boy's attempt to save the life of a gang member tied into preventing a loved one's soul from eternal damnation? What does a mysterious psychic's prophecy conveyed earlier in New Orleans have to do with all of this?

Exploring both the darkness and hope that define our emotions, "The Poe Consequence" integrates social and ethnic divisions through acts of fate and supernatural horror for the reader to observe and imagine.

Coraline Review

Wow it’s been awhile since I’ve last posted and that had been about the book Coraline by Neil Gaiman. Well, I did read it and was taken back from how unlike it was from the movie. Boy was it different and it really shouldn’t have surprised me since books, and movies are always different but this was a drastic difference. The movie was obviously americanized for I guess American tastes, though I would have loved to have seen some of the things that were in the book. When Coraline goes down in the cellar would have definitely been one of them. Beyond the differences, I enjoyed the fantasy and the mystery that was Coraline… I couldn’t help but root for young Coraline as she battled with the other mother plus her smart mouth had me laughing out loud quite a few times. This was a splendid read and would recommend it for anyone whom wants a few good laughs :)

Current Book:

Ok so I was reading the Third book in the Dead is Series, but I’ve decided  to change it, for the time being, because my daughter is obsessed with the movie Coraline and to be honest, I love this movie too n can’t help but wonder what the book is like. So to quench my curiosity my current book now is Coraline by Neil Gaiman...

Summary:

Coraline's often wondered what's behind the locked door in the drawing room. It reveals only a brick wall when she finally opens it, but when she tries again later, a passageway mysteriously appears. Coraline is surprised to find a flat decorated exactly like her own, but strangely different. And when she finds her "other" parents in this alternate world, they are much more interesting despite their creepy black button eyes. When they make it clear, however, that they want to make her theirs forever, Coraline begins a nightmarish game to rescue her real parents and three children imprisoned in a mirror. With only a bored-through stone and an aloof cat to help, Coraline confronts this harrowing task of escaping these monstrous creatures.

Gaiman has delivered a wonderfully chilling novel, subtle yet intense on many levels. The line between pleasant and horrible is often blurred until what's what becomes suddenly clear, and like Coraline, we resist leaving this strange world until we're hooked. Unnerving drawings also cast a dark shadow over the book's eerie atmosphere, which is only heightened by simple, hair-raising text. Coraline is otherworldly storytelling at its best.

Dead Is a State of Mind Review

Finally, I finished the second book in the Dead is Series by Marlene Perez.  Once again, it wasn’t very long but the witty teenage humor made up for it ten-fold. Daisy’s wise-crack thinking along with the rest of the colorful characters had me chuckling at times. I must say that I was just like Daisy growing up and can relate to some of the things she is going through well minus the whole psychic things since I’m not psychic and the whole weird town though mine is pretty strange so maybe I’m not too far off. Lol :D

I do have to say that the story is intriguing and has me hooked. I can’t help but wonder about Daisy’s father and his mysterious disappearance and the other secret society out to destroy all supernatural beings. Are they the reason he disappeared? Was ‘Duke’ telling Daisy the truth about him being alive? Will we see more of this deadly society in the near future? Well, there is only one way to find out and that is to read the following book in the series.  So ta-ta for now I’m off to read the next installment of the Dead is Series. Peace Y’all….

Current Book:

Dead is a State of Mind - Second book in the Dead Is Series by Marlene Perez.

Summary:

A creepy, campy new mystery series

Welcome to Nightshade, California—a small town full of secrets. It’s home to the psychic Giordano sisters, who have a way of getting mixed up in mysteries. During their investigations, they run across everything from pom-pom- shaking vampires to shape-shifting boyfriends to a clue-spewing jukebox. With their psychic powers and some sisterly support, they can crack any case!

There’s a gorgeous new guy at Nightshade High: Duke Sherrad, a fortune-teller claiming to have descended from Gypsies. Even though she’s psychic herself, Daisy is skeptical of Duke’s powers. But when a teacher who was the subject of one of his predictions ends up dead, she begins to wonder if Duke is the real deal after all.
Maybe if Daisy can track down the teacher’s killer, she can find out the truth. The only trouble is, all signs point to the murderer being of the furry persuasion. Is Daisy any match for a werewolf? Maybe she is . . . in more ways than she bargained for!

Ok so like I said in my review I'll be reading this book next :D Yay!!! Its only 119 pages so I should have a review by tomorrow though I'm gonna be busy tonight so i'm not sure if i'll have it finished tonight or tomorrow so it may not be till later in the evening. So peace y'all I'm off to read this book...

Dead is the New Black Review

Okay so I finished it. Wow was that short or what, only 125 pages usually the books I read are in the 300s but still this was a funny and cute read while it lasted.

I loved Daisy- the main character and heroine. She was witty in a way that only a teenager can be and I loved how she didn’t let her being “a norm” stop her from wanting to help her mother.

The interaction between Daisy and Ryan – Daisy’s best friend and love interest- was beyond adorable and had me thinking back to a time when dating was new and awkward – not that awkwardness goes away with dating lol

I’m a big supernatural buff so this was right up my alley with supernatural creatures, secret societies, psychic powers, and a mystery to boot. I can’t wait to read the next in the series which I am going to start as soon as I’m done with this review :D
